Atlanta Hawks assign Jared Cunningham to Bakersfield Jam

The Atlanta Hawks have assigned shooting guard Jared Cunningham to the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA D-League.

In a story that seems to be recurring every couple of weeks, the Atlanta Hawks have assigned Jared Cunningham back to the D-League.

With Cartier Martin serving in his second stint with the team (on a 10-day contract), Danny Ferry and company apparently feel as though Cunningham's development is best continued in Bakersfield, and it's tough to argue with them. Since being recalled on January 25th, the 6-foot-4 guard has appeared in only 2 games for a total of 14 minutes, and he has posted a -1.76 PER in 5 appearances during the full season.

Cunningham has played in 17 games for Bakersfield this season, averaging more than 15 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds per game. It is likely that he will resurface in Atlanta at some point down the stretch of the season, but if his past usage is any indication, it will likely be a minimal role if he is recalled.
