Al Horford was scratched from the Atlanta Hawks' lineup literally minutes before the opening tip due to an upset stomach. Pero Antic got the start in place of Horford and the Hawks went on to defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers 109-101.
"During warm-ups, he started not feeling well," said head coach Mike Budenholzer. "Literally two or three minutes before the horn goes off, before the national anthem. We're fortunate that we have bigs, and we have depth in Elton Brand and Mike Scott. All of those guys helped us. Obviously we miss Al, and he's a big part of us, but it was last second, unforeseen, no warning. Hopefully he will be fine."
There was initially some hope that Horford might still play despite missing the start of the game. He was eventually declared out following halftime. The team updated his status following the game saying that he received treatment from team doctors during the game and that he was listed as "Probable" for Friday's game in Utah.
