The Atlanta Hawks will be aiming for an eighth consecutive win on Wednesday night, but the roster will be at less than full strength at tip-off against the Philadelphia 76ers. The team announced on Wednesday afternoon that backup power forward Mike Scott has been ruled out for the game as a result of flu-like symptoms.
At this point, Scott's status should be considered up in the air for Atlanta's game against the Orlando Magic on Friday evening, but in terms of this match-up, Philadelphia is a spot where the Hawks could minimize Scott's absence. The team will be short-handed up front, but because of the lack of quality size for the Sixers, Mike Budenholzer could freely experiment with small ball lineups featuring DeMarre Carroll at the four spot, or even bigger groups deploying Pero Antic (and potentially Elton Brand) alongside Al Horford.
Mike Scott is a unique player in terms of his ability to stretch defenses, and with that, it will be interesting to see how the second unit functions. Still, flu-like symptoms are never fun and we want to wish Mike a speedy recovery and bounce-back.
