Payne was inactive in Wednesday's season opener and there is no word as to whether the injury played a part in that decision.
Atlanta selected Payne with the No. 15 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. He appeared in five games during the preseason and averaged 2.6 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. He appeared to end the preseason behind Mike Muscala in the rotation but his versatility will likely lead to playing time further down the road. Payne at times appeared to struggle with the speed of the game during the preseason and Mike Budenholzer previously indicated that he was still getting accustomed to Atlanta's offensive and defensive systems.
