The Atlanta Hawks will wrap up their preseason schedule Wednesday night in San Antonio against the defending champion Spurs. Atlanta has gone 3-3 during the exhibition season and most recently defeated the Charlotte Hornets 117-114 in overtime on Monday. San Antonio defeated the Sacramento Kings 106-99 on Monday to improve their preseason record to 2-3. They will close out their preseason schedule on Friday against the Houston Rockets.

After playing well early in the preseason, the Hawks have battled inconsistency of late. Atlanta rattled off a 20-0 run in the second quarter Monday against the Hornets only to see the lead evaporate in the third quarter. The Hawks eventually prevailed in overtime but need to pull things together quickly as the regular season draws near.

Atlanta waived training camp invitees Dexter Pittman and Jerell Eddie on Monday cutting their roster down to the league maximum of 15 players. There doesn't appear to be any competition for roster spots but there is still plenty of competition for spots in Atlanta's rotation. Shelvin Mack and Dennis Schröder are battling for minutes behind Jeff Teague. Mack finished with 12 points in Saturday's loss to the Pistions. Schroöder had an equally strong game totaling 12 points and five assists Monday against Charlotte.

There is also competition on the wing where Kent Bazemore continues to work his way back from a foot injury. John Jenkins has made the most of his opportunities during the preseason and appears to be fully recovered from last season's back injury. Mike Muscala has performed well and is ready to challenge for minutes behind starters Al Horford and Paul Millsap.

For the Spurs, its about getting healthy for the regular season. Kawhi Leonard and Tiago Splitter are both battling injury and reserve guard Patty Mills is out after shoulder surgery. San Antonio's reserves rallied in Monday's win over the Kings.
