The Atlanta Hawks have waived guard/forward Cartier Martin in advance of today's 5 p.m. deadline.
Hearing Hawks have waived Cartier Martin in time to beat today's 5PM deadline before Martin's contract was guaranteed for rest of season
— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) January 7, 2014
Martin's deal would have become guaranteed for the remainder of the season had he made it past today's 5 p.m. deadline. Friday is the actual day that all contracts become guaranteed but teams must still go through the waiver process and needed to cut ties with players today.
Martin appeared in 25 games averaging 6.6 points on 40 percent shooting. He had seen his time dwindle of late thanks to the return of Lou Williams.
The Hawks now have 14 players on their roster and have a spot to play with should they want to bring in anyone on a 10-day contract or for the remainder of the season.
The team has not yet announced the move but the AJC's Chris Vivlamore is also confirming Stein's report.
Update: The Atlanta Hawks have confirmed the move via a team press release
