John Jenkins injury: Hawks guard considering back surgery, according to report

Second year guard John Jenkins is reportedly considering having back surgery to correct an injury that has plagued him since the offseason.

Atlanta Hawks guard John Jenkins is "seriously considering" having back surgery due to the injury that has plagued him since the offseason according to a report by Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The report cites a "person familiar with the situation" and Jenkins was not available for comment. He did not travel with the Hawks to Milwaukee and has only appeared in 13 games this season.

The problem with his back developed over the summer sometime after summer league. It flared up again during training camp and has led to a nerve problem in his leg. Jenkins clearly has been hampered by the injury and was affecting his performance.

The first course of treatment was rest and rehab but that doesn't appear to have helped the situation if the report is accurate. Back surgery would most likely sideline him for the remainder of the season with rehab stretching into the summer. The Hawks picked up Jenkins third-year option earlier this season.
