Hawks re-assign Jared Cunningham to the D-League

Jared Cunningham has been assigned to the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA D-League for the third time this season.

The Atlanta Hawks have re-assigned guard Jared Cunningham to the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA D-League. This is Cunningham's third assignment to Bakersfield this season.

Cunningham was recalled on December 29th to help provide emergency depth that was needed due to injuries suffered by DeMarre Carroll and Al Horford. The Hawks won't play again to Friday and the move likely signals that Carroll is ready to return to the court.

Carroll suffered a sprained thumb in the double overtime victory against the Cleveland Cavaliers. He returned to play in Saturday's win over the Charlotte Bobcats but was largely ineffective. He did not travel with the team on their two game road trip and remains listed as day-to-day.

Cunningham has played in eight games in the D-League this season averaging 18.1 points, 5.4 assists and 4.5 rebounds. He was playing his best basketball of the season when he was recalled averaging 27.5 points and nine assists over his last two games.

The Jam host the Canton Charge on Thursday.
