2013 FIBA Americas: Gustavo Ayon solid in loss to Canada

Atlanta Hawks center Gustavo Ayon recorded a double-double in Mexico's 89-67 loss to Canada at the FIBA Americas Tournament on Thursday.


Mexico came up short against Canada falling 89-67 as second round play at the FIBA Americas opened on Thursday. Despite the loss, Atlanta Hawks center Gustavo Ayon turned in another solid performance.

Mexico played Canada closely for three quarters before being outscored 29-9 over the final 10 minutes of play. Ayon played a big part finishing with 19 points and 11 rebounds on 7-12 shooting. Ayon did pick up a technical foul late in the third quarter as Mexico was closing the gap. The performance came against a Canadian frontline that featured several NBA players such as Cleveland's Tristan Thompson, Orlando's Andrew Nicholson and Miami's Joel Anthony.

Ayon is now averaging 18 points and just under 10 rebounds in five games during the tournament. Mexico will try to get back in the win column on Friday when they take on Uruguay. Mexico will wrap up second round play over the weekend with matchups against Jamaica on Saturday and Puerto Rico on Sunday.
