NBA Free Agent Rumors: Jeff Teague reportedly asks Hawks not to match Bucks' offer

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Chris Vivlamore reports that Jeff Teague has told Hawks' general manager Danny Ferry that he is ready to move on.

Jeff Teague has reportedly signed an offer sheet from the Milwaukee Bucks that is worth $32 million over four years. He also has apparently told Atlanta Hawks general manager Danny Ferry that he is ready to move on per the AJC's Chris Vivlamore.

Teague clearly was not happy with Atlanta's lack of urgency in free agency and now apparently is ready to move on. This wouldn't be the first time that a restricted free agent signed an offer sheet and then asked his current team not to match. We saw that earlier this summer with Tyreke Evans and last year with Eric Gordon and New Orleans who ignored the request. Joe Johnson did a similar move with the Phoenix Suns prior to coming to Atlanta for the 2005-06 season.

Danny Ferry may very well go ahead and match the offer but at this point it doesn't really feel like they want to. We discussed Teague many times this season and thought that $8 million a season would be a good value for him but the market for him hasn't proven that strong.

The Hawks have only reportedly given out one contract this summer that is for longer than two years. That contract to Kyle Korver still has not been formerly announced by the team. Would Ferry at this point be willing to commit to Teague for four years? Would it be beneficial to the Hawks if Teague wants to be elswhere? Both questions are what Ferry is dealing with currently.

If Atlanta elects not to match the offer then it clears up more cap space for the Hawks who have also been rumored to have interest in Brandon Jennings and Monta Ellis. Utah point guard Mo Williams is another name that has been linked to the Hawks in the last couple of days. Teague's cap hold was right at $6 million dollars. If the Hawks don't match then you can add that $6 million to the $9.253 million number that Jason Walker reported in yesterday's salary roundup.
