The free agent frenzy has begun and the Detroit Pistons were quick to meet with Atlanta's Josh Smith and reportedly will give him a substantial four-year offer according to Yahoo Sports Adrian Wojnarowski. No word on how big the offer will be but Detroit News Pistons' writer Vincent Goodwell reports that it was not a max offer.
Just asked a source if the #Pistons will offer Josh Smith the max, the answer: "Absolutely not."

According to Wojnarowski, the Pistons have made signing Smith and re-signing point guard Jose Calderon a priority. Smith is a back up plan for many teams behind Dwight Howard so Detroit wasted no time in trying to jump to the head of the line. Wojnarowski also reports that the Atlanta Hawks seem much more willing to work out a sign and trade deal for Smith than trying to re-sign him to a long term deal.
