The Atlanta Hawks have traded with the Dallas Mavericks to get the 16th pick in the NBA Draft, per reports from Yahoo! Sports. The Hawks receive Jared Cunningham and the 44th overall selection and give up the 18th overall selection in this year's draft. With the 16th selection the Hawks drafted Lucas Nogueira who plays for Asefa Estudiantes Madrid (Spain). Nogueira is a legitimate seven-footer from Brazil and is a long, athletic player that runs the floor and is a defense-first rebounder in the half-court. Nogueira, just 20 years old, will likely stay overseas for at least one more season as the Hawks will draft-and-stash him to save salary and continue developing him.
Nogueira's selection allows the Hawks to save his salary this season if he stays overseas to use in free agency. Nogueira will be able to continue developing, which he desperately needs on the offensive end to become an effective offensive center. The Hawks will also select at 17, 44, 47, and 50.
