NBA.com's David Aldridge reports that the San Antonio Spurs will allow the Atlanta Hawks to negotiate with assistant coach Mike Budenholzer during the team's nine day wait for the NBA Finals to begin.

Mike Budenholzer has been rumored to be the front runner to be the next head coach of the Atlanta Hawks but with the Spurs headed to the NBA Finals, the two sides may have to hold off on a formal announcement. It does appear that there will be window for discussions as David Aldridge is reporting that the Spurs will allow the Hawks to negotiate with Budenholzer if he is their choice as head coach during their nine day break leading up to the Finals.

After a flurry of activity early, rumors into Atlanta's coaching search have gone silent. That in part is due to the belief that Budenholzer is the favorite to replace Larry Drew. We may soon find out over the next nine days if Ferry can successfully lure Budenholzer from Spurs where he has worked since the 94-95 season.
