Josh Smith's status for Game 2 against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday is unknown after he suffered an ankle injury in Game 1. Smith sat out Atlanta's practice on Monday and received treatment and will receive another round on Tuesday according to head coach Larry Drew.
Smith appeared to suffer the injury in the third quarter of Game 1 and it completely limited his effectiveness. The situation is eerily similar to last season when Smith was forced to miss time during Atlanta's first-round series against the Boston Celtics with a knee injury.
This injury doesn't seem as serious as that one but the Hawks need Smith to be effective since they are already facing a 1-0 deficit in the series. If Smith were to be unable to play then Drew would likely turn to Johan Petro or Ivan Johnson as replacements in the starting lineup.
Atlanta is set to practice again on Tuesday before flying back to Indiana for Game 2 on Wednesday.
