The Atlanta Hawks didn't play their best basketball in the first half of Game 1 against the Indiana Pacers but they have been able to hang around trailing 58-50 at halftime.
The Hawks got off to a good start with Jeff Teague and Devin Harris scoring the first six points of the game. Indiana came back with a big run and took a 34-26 lead at the end of the first. The Hawks fell behind by double digits in the second before going on a run of their own and got as close as four points.
Al Horford did all he could to keep the Hawks close in the first half with 12 points and five rebounds on 6-7 shooting. Josh Smith has 11 points while Teague added 10 points and four assists.
The Hawks went with the smaller lineup in an effort to push the pace. It hasn't worked out so far as Indiana has outscored Atlanta 11-5 in fastbreak points. Harris and Kyle Korver combined to score six points on 3-9 shooting in the first half.
George Hill leads all scorers with 15 points on 6-7 shooting. The Hawks have struggled to match up with Paul George who finished the half with 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists while going 10-10 from the free throw line.
Atlanta was able to hang in thanks to the effort of players like Ivan Johnson who came off the bench to score eight points and grab four boards. They scrapped their way back into the game but will have to tune up the defense considerably in the second half to have a chance.
