More speculation into Larry Drew's status as Hawks head coach

ESPN.com's Marc Stein takes an early look at what could be the NBA coaching carousel and discusses Larry Drew's situation in Atlanta.

We touched on Larry Drew's status as the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks earlier this week and now ESPN.com's Marc Stein sets the stage for what the upcoming NBA coaching carousel might look like. Drew is by far not the only coach, particularly in the Eastern Conference, that could be on shaky ground once the season comes to an end.

On the Hawks situation, Stein says that it is hard to read GM Danny Ferry and what he might be looking for but does point out that until Mike Brown is off the market that his name will continue to pop up around the Hawks.

What we do know: Ferry remains one of Mike Brown's biggest fans. So assumptions about Ferry's interest in bringing Brown to Atlanta will live on until Brown is no longer a coaching free agent.

At this point its hard to believe that Drew doesn't have at least a shot at keeping the job since he has guided the team into the playoffs in each of his three seasons. However, a lot has changed within the organization since Ferry came on board and the head coaching position could be the next domino to fall.

Not very surprising but Chris Vivlamore of the AJC reported prior to last night's game that the organization has not spoken with Drew about his contract.
