2013 NBA Standings: Hawks still 5th despite loss

Thanks to losses by Chicago and Boston, the Atlanta Hawks remain 5th in the Eastern Conference standings and are two games behind the Brooklyn Nets for fourth.

USA TODAY Sports

Even after a disappointing 127-113 loss where the Atlanta Hawks essentially ignored the Dallas Mavericks on the defensive end of the floor, Atlanta remains in fifth place in the East standings by a half game over both Boston and Chicago. Atlanta has 15 games remaining and are two back of the Brooklyn Nets for fourth place and home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

The Hawks need to put the debacle against Dallas behind them quickly as they will play three more times this week including two matchups against eighth seeded Milwaukee. Atlanta currently is three games in front of the Bucks and could gain more separation with a couple of wins this week.

Important scores from Monday:

Indiana 111, Cleveland 90

Brooklyn 119, Detroit 82

Miami 105, Boston 103

Denver 119, Chicago 118

New York 90, Utah 83
