Horford suffered the injury during the first overtime of Thursday's game when he got tangled with the Cavaliers' Anderson Varejao while fighting for a loose ball. Horford was back in Atlanta on Friday and was examined by team doctors. The results of that examination has not been released by the team. The AJC's Chris Vivlamore cites a team source in his report.
If it is indeed a torn pectoral for Horford then it will likely cost him the remainder of the season. Horford tore his left pectoral muscle just 11 games into the 2012 season.
A report by CBSSports' Ken Berger cites a league source that the Hawks were "bracing for the worst" in regards to Horford.
Update
The Atlanta Hawks have confirmed via team press release that Horford did suffer a complete tear of his right pectoral muscle.
"We will work with Al and complete our due diligence to determine the next best steps for him," said President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Danny Ferry. "Injuries are part of the challenge of an NBA season."
Horford is out indefinitely due to the injury and his status will be updated sometime in the future.
