Lucas Nogueira suspends contract with Estudiantes

New, comments

Atlanta Hawks draft pick Lucas Nogueira is severing his relationship with his Spanish club to seek outside council regarding a knee problem.

Lucas Nogueira has requested suspension of his contract from Estudiantes in an effort to seek outside council for discomfort in his knees per a release from the club. Nogueira has battled hamstring and knee issues for much of the season and apparently wants to focus on getting healthy before a possible move to the NBA next season.

Essentially Nogueira is leaving Estudiantes to seek the medical opinion of outside doctors for his knee issues. Whether that is a permanent situation or just temporary is not known as of yet. Atlanta selected Nogueira with the 16th pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. He participated in the Vegas Summer League with the Hawks but Atlanta elected to send him back to Spain this season. At this point that certainly doesn't appear to have worked out for the best.

Nogueira has played in six games in the Liga Endesa averaging 5.7 points and 4.2 rebounds. This story is developing and we will update as soon as more information is available.
