Dennis Schröder suspension: Mike Budenholzer defends Hawks rookie

The NBA has officially announced that Atlanta Hawks rookie Dennis Schröder has been suspended one game for delivering a low blow to DeMarcus Cousins on Tuesday.

The NBA has confirmed the AJC's report that Dennis Schröder has received a one-game suspension for delivering what appeared to be a low blow to Sacramento's DeMarcus Cousins.

Schröder told the AJC that he got tangled with Cousins while trying to chase guard Isaiah Thomas around a screen. Cousins was clearly agitated following the game and talked about the incident with reporters.

Hawks head coach took up for his rookie after being asked about the incident by the AJC:

"I have been able to see the play from a few different angles," Budenholzer said Wednesday. "Dennis was just trying to get over the pick that Cousins set. They got tangled up for a second, which happens all the time defending the pick and roll."

Atlanta will wrap up their three-game road trip tonight in Denver. Shelvin Mack will likely serve as the backup point guard behind starter Jeff Teague. Mack played four minutes in the opener against Dallas and has received three straight DNP-CD's
