The Atlanta Hawks open a back-to-back set of games on Tuesday in Miami against the defending NBA champion Heat. The Hawks come into the game riding the momentum of a 110-90 win over the New York Knicks on Saturday. However, success hasn't success hasn't come easy for them recently against the Heat.
Miami have won seven straight in the series and 13 of the last 15 meetings overall. The Heat's smothering defense has played a major part in Atlanta's struggles over that span as they have averaged just over 90 points per game.
The Hawks offense figures to fare a little better under Mike Budenholzer and come into Tuesday's game averaging 105.5 points per possession. Since starting the season slowly defensively, the Hawks have climbed into the top 15 in defensive efficiency however that will be tested against the Heat. Miami has a ridiculous 111.5 offensive rating and the Hawks fast paced style could play right into their hands.
Jeff Teague is coming off one of the best weeks of his career but it was LeBron James who took home NBA Player of the Week honors. James averaged 34 points on 70 percent shooting last week and it will be interesting to see how Budenholzer and the Hawks coaching staff elect to try and slow him down.
Tip off is slated for 7:30 p.m. from American Airlines Arena and can be seen on SportSouth and NBA TV. The game will also be available on the radio on the Hawks' flagship station 92.9 FM "The Game" with veteran broadcaster Steve Holman on the call.
