Knicks vs Hawks preview: Atlanta hosts New York in ESPN showcase

The Atlanta Hawks look for their third straight win as they host Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks.

The Atlanta Hawks look for their third straight win Wednesday night when they take on the New York Knicks at Philips Arena. Atlanta came from behind on Monday to defeat the Charlotte Bobcats 103-94 turning in one of their best defensive efforts of the season. The Knicks come in scuffling with a 2-4 record and coming off of a blowout loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday.

The Knicks are struggling at both ends of the floor in the wake of Tyson Chandler's injury and Mike Woodson is considering a lineup change for tonight's game. The challenge for the Hawks tonight is to keep the pressure on New York and not let them get in a rhythm on the offensive end.

Atlanta's defense on the perimeter will be tested again as New York is attempting about 24 three-point attempts per game on the season. The problem is they haven't made a lot and are shooting just 32 percent as a team. The Hawks are one of four teams that are allowing opponents to make 40 percent of their three-point attempts so closing out on New York shooters will be key to a win tonight.

Atlanta would be well served to push the pace at every opportunity and should be able to test New York's defense that is allowing 102.9 points per 100 possessions.

Carmelo Anthony is still the focal point for the Knicks and is averaging 23.2 points per game but is shooting just 41 percent from the field. DeMarre Carroll will be matched up against Anthony for most of the night but slowing him and the rest of the Knicks' shooters will be a group effort.

Tip off from Philips Arena is scheduled for 8 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ESPN with Dave Pasch and legend Hubie Brown calling all the action.
