The Atlanta Hawks dropped their fourth straight preseason game Tuesday night, falling to the Indiana Pacers 107-89. The game resembled many played by the Hawks this preseason with a mixture of good and bad at both ends of the floor.
The Hawks did reverse a trend by jumping out to a 24-15 lead behind some solid play from Jeff Teague. However, the bench struggled again and Indiana came storming back in the second to lead 46-41 at halftime. The Pacers continued to pour it on in the second half and cruised home for the victory.
David West looked to be in midseason form for Indiana leading the way with 24 points and seven rebounds in just 26 minutes. Luis Scola added 20 points off the bench while Paul George chipped in 17.
Jeff Teague turned in another solid performance for the Hawks finishing with 17 points and eight assists. Mike Scott also finished with 17 points on 7-8 shooting in another stellar performance off the bench. Al Horford and DeMarre Carroll finished with 12 points each while Elton Brand chipped in 11. John Jenkins made his preseason debut finishing with zero points and two assists in 11 minutes.
Atlanta's offense produced 27 assists on 36 made baskets but they turned the ball over 20 times leading to 22 points for the Pacers. The Hawks also continued to struggle against defending the three-point line as the Pacers went 6-12 in the game.
Mike Budenholzer elected to go 11 players deep into his rotation. Royal Ivey played just over nine minutes while going scoreless with one assist and three turnovers. Cartier Martin finished with four points and four assists in 19 minutes of action. Eric Dawson, Shelvin Mack and Jared Cunningham were the only healthy players not to appear in the game.
Those players on training camp invites will get one final chance to impress the coaching staff on Wednesday when the Hawks wrap up their preseason schedule in Dallas against the Mavericks.
