Pacers vs Hawks Preview: Atlanta hosts Indiana in playoff rematch

The Atlanta Hawks close out the home portion of their preseason schedule Tuesday night when they host the Indiana Pacers.

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Hawks will play their final home game of the preseason on Tuesday when they host the Indiana Pacers at Philips Arena. This will be the first meeting between the two clubs since last season's first-round matchup.

The Hawks come into the game with a 1-4 mark during the preseason, having most recently suffered a 90-82 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. Atlanta is still trying to get a good grasp of the new offensive and defensive systems employed by new head coach Mike Budenholzer. Recently the Hawks have been plagued by slow starts offensively and are looking to put together more of a complete game as the regular season draws closer.

Atlanta could be without Paul Millsap, who left Sunday's game with a sore left Achilles. Millsap received treatment on Monday and will be reevaluated during Tuesday's morning workout. It's unlikely that the Hawks would take an unnecessary chance with the season opener just a little over a week away.

Atlanta could be close to getting back John Jenkins who has missed the entire preseason with a nagging back injury. Jenkins was working out on the court before Sunday's game and Coach Budenholzer indicated that he could make his preseason debut sometime this week.

Indiana comes into Tuesday's game with a 1-5 record, having defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 102-79 on Saturday. The Pacers have made several changes to their roster since the last time Atlanta saw them, adding Luis Scola and C.J. Watson to help strengthen their bench. Indiana had also gotten back Danny Granger who missed the majority of last season with a knee injury. Granger suffered a strained calf last Friday and was declared out for the remainder of the preseason by the team on Monday.
