The Atlanta Hawks come up just short in the fourth quarter losing to the Brooklyn Nets 94-89. Atlanta trailed 90-82 with just 2:50 remaining in the game. Atlanta answered with seven straight points including a thunderous dunk by Josh Smith over Brook Lopez. The Hawks would not get any closer however as Deron Williams made four free throws down the stretch to put the game away.
Atlanta was once again led by its backcourt combination of Jeff Teague and Devin Harris. Teague finished with a team-high 21 points and 10 assists. It was the second straight game that Teague has led the Hawks in scoring and finished with double figure assists. Harris added 17 points.
Josh Smith returned from a one-game suspension and had a rather quiet game until the fourth quarter. Smith finished with Smith finished with 12 points, nine rebounds and three assists on 5-15 shooting. Kyle Korver added 11 points to round out the Hawks' scorers in double figures.
Atlanta out shot Brooklyn from the floor 44 percent to 41 percent. The Hawks however were not able to overcome the disparity in free throws going 10-14 while the Nets finished 25-38.
Williams led the Nets with 24 points and seven assists. Brook Lopez added 20 points while Joe Johnson finished with 18. Reggie Evans grabbed a game-high 20 rebounds.
Atlanta began the night without Al Horford, DeShawn Stevenson and Anthony Morrow. By the end of the night they had added another name to that list. With just over seven minutes remaining in the second quarter, Lou Williams suffered a knee injury on a drive to the basket. Williams knee buckled and he had to be helped to the locker room.
The Hawks announced that Williams had suffered a knee sprain and that he would undergo further tests once the team is back in Atlanta tomorrow. The Hawks take on the San Antonio Spurs back at home at Philips Arena on Saturday.
