Larry Drew promised changes and those will happen Wednesday night after it was announced that Josh Smith had been suspended by the Hawks for conduct detrimental to the team. Drew made his promise following Monday's embarrassing loss to the Chicago Bulls in which Atlanta scored just 58 points and set a team record with five points in the second quarter.
Even after announcing the suspension, Drew was non committal about who will start Wednesday's game. Despite's Smith's tirade he has been far from the team's only problem during this rough stretch. Its likely that Zaza Pachulia starts at Center with Al Horford sliding to power forward. Drew could decide to further shake things up with his backcourt combinations.
Its kind of ironic that Smith's suspension comes on the same day that Joe Johnson makes his return to Philips Arena with the Brooklyn Nets. After early struggles that cost Avery Johnson his job, the Nets have righted the ship under PJ Carlesimo. The Nets are riding a seven game winning streak and have won nine of their last 10 games.
Tonight's game will also mark the 2,000th consecutive broadcast for radio man Steve Holman who in my very biased opinion is the best broadcaster in the business. Congratulations Steve for a truly remarkable achievement.
