Al Horford and the Dominican Republic National Team opened preliminary play at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying tournament in Venezuela with a 95-85 win over Korea. The Dominican Republic got off to a slow start and trailed 41-37 at the half. A big second half led by Al Horford helped carry John Calipari's club to the win.
Horford finished with 30 points, 12 rebounds and four assists while also going 10 of 14 from the field. Jack Martinez added 16 points and an eye popping 25 rebounds. Francisco Garcia added 13 points while Eulis Baez and Juan Coronado Gil finished with 11 points each. The Dominican Republic annihilated Korea on the boards 56-27 but were just 19 of 32 from the free throw line. Seung Jun Lee scored a team-high 21 points while Sunhyung Kim added 14.
