Atlanta Hawks Offseason: Portland Reportedly Interested In Rick Sund

The Portland Trail Blazers reportedly are interested in talking with Atlanta's Rick Sund about their vacant general manager position. According to a report by ESPN's Chris Broussard, the Blazers asked for permission to speak with Sund but were denied until after the Hawks' season ended. Sund's contract expires on June 30.

There was an earlier report that the Atlanta Spirit Group had offered or had tried to open dialogue with Sund regarding a new contract to remain with the Hawks. Sund reportedly put off any such decision until the offseason.

Atlanta is entering an uncertain offseason as decisions must be made on both Sund and head coach Larry Drew. Josh Smith also enters the final year of his contract and whoever is GM will have to decide whether to trade him or risk having him walk away for nothing after the 2013 season.

Those calling for change in Atlanta will probably help usher Sund right out the door but the question is can you trust the ASG to go out and get a quality GM? Would they hire an existing GM or one with experience or go the route of least expensive? Remember Larry Drew is one of the least compensated head coaches in the NBA the past two seasons.
