The Atlanta Hawks announced on Wednesday that they have requested waivers on Carldell Johnson trimming their preseason roster to 16. Johnson appeared in one preseason game for the Hawks and finished with one assist and one steal in 13 minutes against the Spurs. He was facing a tough road given the logjam that is currently in the Hawks' backcourt.
Atlanta has at least one more cut to make and it is likely between three players in Damion James, Anthony Tolliver and James Anderson. James looks to be the safest bet having appeared in each of Atlanta's four preseason games thus far. Tolliver was in Atlanta's starting lineup on Tuesday against Memphis and finished with 14 points and five rebounds. The versatility he brings to be able to play multiple positions could be the deciding factor. Anderson has played well at times this preseason but isn't as big or as rugged as James and may be a stretch at the small forward position.
Atlanta returns home on Thursday for a preseason matchup against the New Orleans Hornets.
