Andy Rautins scored 15 points to help lead Canada over the Dominican Republic 73-72 at the 2011 FIBA Americas Championship. The Canadians prevailed in a tightly contested contest thanks in large part to a solid stroke from beyond the arc. All of Rautins points came courtesy of the three ball as the former Syracuse point guard went 5 for 8 from beyond the arc.
Jack Michael Martinez was once again solid for the Dominican Republic finishing with 21 points and 16 rebounds. Atlanta's Al Horford finished with 17 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, three steals, and three blocks. Sacramento's Francisco Garcia chipped in 12 points. The Dominican Republic was outscored 38-3 off the bench as Canada simply wore them down as the game went along.
Canada grabbed an early 19-16 lead after one quarter of play with the Dominican's keeping themselves in the game thanks to some early offensive rebounds. Neither team could grab an advantage in the second as they entered halftime with the score tied at 30. Canada built a seven point lead by the end of the third quarter before a furious fourth quarter rally by the Dominican Republic fell just short.
