Hawks forward Marvin Williams had outpatient back surgery today to take care of a bulging disc in his lower back. Williams should be able to return to basketball related activities in about six to eight weeks.

Here is the official team release:

Atlanta Hawks forward Marvin Williams underwent a discectomy on his lower back earlier today to alleviate an isolated bulging disc.  Dr. Hal Silcox of Peachtree Orthopedic Clinics performed the outpatient procedure.  Williams walked out of the surgery center this afternoon and will begin rehabilitation immediately.  He is expected to make a full recovery and return to full basketball activity in six-to-eight weeks.

Williams battled injuries at a couple of points during the season and wound up playing in 65 games while averaging 10.4 points and 4.8 rebounds per contest. Marvin is under contract with the Hawks for two more seasons and has a player option for the 2013-14 season.
