Al Horford Leads Team Atlanta To Win In Haier Shooting Stars Event

Al Horford helped deliver the Hawks first All-Star Saturday night win since Josh Smith won the 2005 Dunk contest. Horford along with Atlanta Dream guard Coco Miller, and Hawks legend Steve Smith combined to post the second fastest time in the event during the first round. They advanced to the championship round where they took on defending champion Team Texas.

Team Atlanta flew through the first round knocking down shots. Al Horford nailed the half court shot in only the team's sixth attempt. They finished with a time of 47.6 seconds. Team Texas recorded the fastest time of the first round finishing in 31.8 seconds when former Houston Rocket (and Atlanta Hawk) and current TNT announcer Kenny Smith nailed the half court shot in his first attempt. Team Los Angeles 55.8 seconds, and Team Chicago 1:06 rounded out the competition.

In the finals, Atlanta made it through the first five shots rather quickly but struggled with the half court shot. Horford finally made it on the 18th attempt. Their time of 1:10 look really shaky with a hot shooting Team Texas coming up next. Team Texas was made up of Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki, San Antonio Siver Stars Roneeka Hodges, and the before mentioned Kenny Smith. Texas flew through the first five shots in just under 30 seconds but failed to make the half court shot which gave Atlanta the victory.
