Mike Scott entered Thursday as the longest-tenured member of the Atlanta Hawks. Before the 2017 trade deadline passed, he was reportedly on his way to Phoenix to join the second team in his NBA career.

Scott failed to gain traction as a member of the rotation this season, appearing in only 18 games and shooting just 29 percent from the floor and 15 percent from beyond the three-point arc. While the Suns could have to trade some sort of future asset beyond cash to complete the deal, it will likely be a highly-protected second round draft choice that will never convey.
This is a cost-cutting move for Atlanta and also one that opens up an additional roster spot for the team. Scott was a pending free agent and his poor play combined with legal woes off the court made it highly unlikely that the Hawks would be interested in re-signing him beyond this year.
