Paying close attention to an NBA mock draft can often be a misguided proposition, and that is doubly true when it comes to second round NBA mock drafts. However, Atlanta Hawks should be looking for reasons to get excited about the 2016 NBA Draft, and the latest mock update from DraftExpress provides one.
That reason? Virginia guard Malcolm Brogdon falling to Atlanta.... in the second round.
Note: DraftExpress updates their mock on the same link so it is ever-changing. We’ve provided a screenshot below from June 20.
Brogdon has been a favorite in this space before, and the 6-foot-6 shooting guard would be an incredible value in the mid-second round. Though he does not present “star” upside, Brogdon is the (very) rare example of a second-round pick that could legitimately spend time on an NBA floor as a rookie, and his defense and shooting would be tantalizing in Atlanta’s scheme under Mike Budenholzer.
Again, second round mocks should be taken with more than a grain of salt, but Malcolm Brogdon falling to Atlanta with the team’s second pick of the night would qualify as manna from heaven. In fact, he might not look so bad at number 21 overall...
Stay tuned.
