What I Think Atlanta Should Do If Millsap and Carroll Stay in Atlanta

  • Do not Resign/Sign and Trade
      • Pero Antic

      • Elton Brand

    • Resign

      • Jenkins (At or just above the minimum, given his lack of experience)

    • Draft

      • First Round #15 Pick

        • Center/Power Forward

          • I personally believe that the Hawks need a defensive presence in the frontcourt, and therefore, should be looking to draft a player that can make an impact in his rookie year. The players listed are in no particular order.

          • Robert Upshaw

            • Center who could be a huge defensive upgrade

            • Not a freak athlete but definitely has huge upside

            • Requires polish on the offensive end, as well as, an upgrade in his shooting mechanics

            • Not too worried about off the court issues, I think that Horford and Millsap could keep him in line outside of the sport

          • Christian Wood

            • Though he is raw defensively, his athleticism and huge potential upside could make him a worthwhile pick for this current Hawks roster.

            • His offensive skill set has developed strongly at UNLV

            • His major deficiency, his strength, could easily be addressed with the help of trainers and a NBA weight room

          • Bobby Portis

            • Big size for a Power Forward with a lot of athletic talent and an amazing motor

            • Has shown the ability to shoot from 17-feet and out, and could possibly turn into a 3-Point threat given the write coaching

            • Has weird shooting mechanics, but they seem to work for him given his FG%

        • Small Forward/Shooting Guard

          • I think that the Hawks need a bit more size on the wings, and could use a legitimate offensive 6 man to lead the second unit with Schroeder. Although Jenkins has some interesting qualities, he has yet to prove his worth. I talked about Dekker and Anderson in the section about what the Hawks should do if Carroll were to leave the Hawks. These players could be interesting additions even if Carroll remains in Atlanta.

          • Sam Dekker: His size is quite interesting, but his lack of athleticism and his streaky shooting are cause for concern.

          • Justin Anderson: My personal favorite in the draft at this position. I think Anderson will turn into a beast 3-D and with a shot off the dribble he could turn into Jimmy Butler Lite.

          • Devin Booker: Although it looks like Booker is going before the Hawks would pick at 15, Booker could be an intriguing prospect to grab should he fall to the Hawks given his ability to put the ball in the hoop from deep.

      • Second Round #50 and #59

        • Both of these could be packaged to move up into the later part of the first round. Or, one of these could be paired with the future first rounder from Minnesota to move up the board and into the first round. I personally think that combining the two second round picks into a first round pick would be the best for the team at the moment given the current roster.

        • Options if picks are not traded (Sorry for lack of comments):

          • Small Forwards/Shooting Guards

            • Aleksandar Vezenkov

            • Timothe Luwawu: Raw but seems to have a lot of upside given that he has only been playing basketball for about 2 years. Could be a good draft and stash.

            • Anthony Brown: My top choice for a second rounder given his size, length, and ability to knock down shots from deep. Could use some strength and improvement at the defensive end, but Thabo and DeMarre could help him out with that. Also his basketball IQ seems pretty high and he has plenty of catch and shoot experience when coming off screens.

            • Daniel Diez

            • Josh Richardson

            • Alberto Abalde

            • Rade Zagorac

          • Power Forwards/ Centers

            • Rakeem Christmas: Would likely have to trade up for Christmas

            • Nikola Milutinov

            • Richaun Holmes

            • Guillermo Hernangomez

    • Possible Free Agents to Target

      • Wings

        • Marco Belinelli (6th man to back up Kyle Korver and add shooting)

        • Mike Dunleavy (6th man to back up Kyle or create super shooting teams alongside Korver)

        • Gerald Green (Could be sign and trade for a current player. I personally think that Green would thrive in our system similar to Carroll. Also, his ability to play the 2 could make for some crazy interesting defensive lineups with him and Carroll at the 2 and 3.)

        • Gary Neal (Shooting)

        • KJ McDaniels (Athleticism and upside)

        • Leandro Barbosa (Veteran savvy and secondary ball handler)

        • Luol Deng (Should he opt out)

      • Front Court

        • Andrea Bargnani (could replace Pero Antic’s spacing)

        • Luis Scola (Boris Diaw light)

    • Possible Trades

      • Shelvin Mack for X

        • Sign and trade Aaron Brooks for Mack

        • Cheaper backup point guard, if the Hawks are committed to Schroeder

      • Mike Scott for X

        • Could be necessary for cap flexibility

      • Kent Bazemore for X

        • Could secure the likes of Gerald Green, but otherwise I would not trade Bazemore

      • Dennis Schroeder for X

        • Could be necessary given his recklessness at times. May be able to be traded in return for another young point guard.
