The Hawks Game Adventure!

Today, I attended my first Hawks game of this season. I’ve been a Hawks fan since as long as I can remember, but they really caught my attention when they first made the playoffs in 2008. Call me a bandwagon fan but I was only 10 that season. Since then, I’ve always been one of the few real Hawks fans I knew and the only one that believed, wrongly, we could win the title. Anyways, this is the first year we have a real chance at it, but ironically, I hadn’t been to any games this year. I knew I wouldn’t be able to go to the game this week because it was spring break and I’d probably go somewhere with some friends would be able to go because I didn’t have anywhere to go this week , so I badgered my mother about buying a ticket to the Hawks Suns game for me. She said she would, on one condition, I write an essay for a scholarship. So, long story short, I write the essay, argue with my mom about a tassel, but I’m eventually allowed to attend.

So now it’s about 6:15 in the CNN Center and my Tracfone has one bar of battery left and my tablet has none, so I’m going into the game with a limited connection to the outside world. I do bring a Morehouse drawstring bag with ""My Little NBA Notebook Collection Volumes 1 and 2"and my TI-Nspire to get some autographs and look impressive to some important people. I get some Taco Bell and a Powerade to save money and talk to some folk about the game and now I’m ready to go in. So, I’m in there about an hour before the game and I find my seat. Then I ask an usher can I go down to the floor for some autographs to see the players warm-up close up and next thing I know I’m watching Korver making about 80 to 90% of his shots as he usually does and I’m looking at Nique talk to Darvin Ham and watching that coach whose name I can’t ever remember( Charles Lee) talk to someone else and I’m thinking, this is amazing! Then I see Bob Rathbun walk out and stroll past me and I say to myself, "I can go talk to him." And I go to him and say hello and we make small talk and I ask him to sign my NBA book and he does. I’m extremely grateful and tell him thank you and I let him go back to his seat, then I see Steve Holman walking past. I make small talk with him but I don’t ask him for his autograph, but I’m thinking to myself, I just got to talk to two ATL legends and the game still hasn’t even started yet.

My next mission is now to get onto Hawks live pregame show and succeed. If you recorded it, look for a black kid making three goggles. Anyways, it almost gametime, so it’s time for the National Anthem and it’s this Black opera singer named Timothy Miller. So as I’m watching him sing, I’m wondering how the heck can he hit these high notes and his performance ends in applause. Now it’s time for the game to start.

Hawks Live!

Before the game starts I make sure "My Little NBA Notebook 2" is updated and this lady notices and says that it’s neat. So, I go behind one of the monitors and look at the roster. I look at Phoenix’s roster and I say to myself who the f*** is Jerel McNeal? So once it’s updated I’m ready to go to my seat. At the beginning of the game, the Hawks come out well on offense but we let Brandan Wright become Tyson Chandler light to start with and that keeps them in the game. Other than Wright, Phoenix looks like they are done and are ready to hit their summer break early. They miss basically every shot in the 1st quarter, but the Hawks’ offense isn’t clicking either and it really ends up being a low-scoring first quarter. I sitting there next to this lady with some earphones in and I’m telling her that the twins can do some damage today and Gerald Green comes out. A couple of days ago, I realized Gerald Green never plays because Gerald Green is allergic to passing so I tell her I can probably count on 1 hand the number of times he’ll pass today. I think it ended up being like 4 so I was right. Now back to the game. The Hawks start to capitalize on the insertion of Archie Goodwin and Gerald Green building a 10 or 11 point lead at half. Korver is really struggling, but the crowd is fueling the team and they start to pick up the effort in order to match the crowds energy. The crowd this year is much improved of years’ past by the way. So the halftime show start and it’s these kids that can sin, but they’re offbeat so they sound terrible. I walk out pretending I want some food and I end up going to the media row and I see the Hawks Blogging legends Brad Rowland and Bo Churney. I recognize Churney immediately and he tells me that it’s Rowland that’s next to him. I say hello, and start to talk to him then I leave to go get "My Little NBA Notebook Collection Volumes 1 and 2" and my Calcy to impress them. I go back and show it to Mr. Rowland and I go to ask him about how he got his job and that type of stuff and he tells me he met Kris on Twitter and that he used to look at NBA stuff in his high school classes as well. I say to myself" NBA NERD ALERT!" nut then I realize that makes me one too. Our conversation could have went better if we had more time and I actually let him speak, but it was still great to meet both of them. I was nervous so it was difficult to think of topics and it was extremely loud so I didn’t hear half of what they said.

So I go back to my seat and talk trash to this guy who bet on the Suns with someone else and the third quarter starts. The Hawks come out flat but once the crowd gets back from the halftime break, the energy picks back up and the Hawks get out to a 10+ point lead. Then Eric Bledsoe gets ejected outta nowhere and they have to put Archie Goodwin in. Did I mention how bad of an NBA player Archie Goodwin is? He can’t shoot and even though he’s athletic, he isn’t a strong finisher at the rim. He’s not good defensively and he just isn’t in. When Marcus Thornton was put in at the end of the game, I said why wasn’t he playing over Goodwin. I talked soo much trash about Archie Goodwin today and the lady I was sitting next to seemed to enjoy it and agreed with me. Anyways, once Goodwin comes in the Hawks push the lead even higher and Horny decides to put in Gerald Green! I don’t think Horny cares anymore either. Gerald Green gives himself the blue light and takes every shot he can. He’s like I’d be if they said they weren’t making anymore Strawberry Frosted Pop-Tarts and the last of them were at my Kroger. His field goal attempts were my Pop-Tarts. Predicatively, the lead balloons to 20+ and the game is effectively over. Side note: I caught a T-Shirt!

After the game is where the story really begins. So you know that tracfone with one bar left? Yeah, it now has no bars and is giving me the low battery notification and my tablet is still dead. I call my mom and she tells me my Godmother went to the game and can take me home, but my Godmother never responds to me or my mom. So I hear a crowd yelling and I see that it’s the Hawks Live Post Game Show, but I decide to skip it because I think it would be smarter to focus on trying to get home. I look for an outlet to find my phone and find one, but I look at the charger my mother gave me and see that it’s an IPhone charger. I’m like what the frijoles am I supposed to do with this? I’m in luck because I brought my tablet charger, and I’m able to text my mom to pick me up near the CNN Center. After that, out of the blue Austin Daye just comes walking out only 20 minutes after the game going through the CNN Center exit. My knee-jerk reaction is to shout out his name and he says hello and gives me dap and I let him go without asking him for his autograph. So I borrow someone’s phone to confirm with my mom that she’s picking me up and then I see that they done shooting Hawks Live. I walk over there and see Aldridge in deep conversation with a lovely looking lady and see the Stinger by himself. So I go talk to him as he’s preparing to go and we talk about the game and I ask him for his autograph. He’s also nice enough to give it to me and I’m feeling like this day was amazing. I got to watch the Hawks win, talked to some Hawks bloggers and got the autographs of the local TV stars. I say to myself " I want to live in here, at least until Friday." But, I had to go home so I walk into the CNN Center and go behind Starbucks when the security says we can charge our stuff there. I go behind there and I see this old man charging two phones and ask him to borrow one charger and he willingly does. I call my mom then the man asks me what school I go to and I tell him and I also tell him I’m going to Mercer and he talks about his grandson that goes to BEST Academy and we have a funny conversation about how he want to yell at his Grandson graduation, then he tells me I should probably go know so I walk out of CNN Center knowing I want to build an experience like this for us when I become GM...
