So currently we're at 8.5 million under the cap, but will gain another 7 million when/if Salmons is cut. However we are hard pressed to attract any of the upper echelon Free agents, James or Mello, and guys like Parsons and Hayward will be matched by their current teams. Instead of pursuing free agents like Deng, who has a lot of miles on his body and not worth 10 million, I say Atlanta should use this year's cap space to be the third team in trades for other teams shedding cap space.
Latest news is that N.Y. will not agree to a sign and trade for Mello to Chicago where they get back Boozer. Mello is also willing to sign for less than max, but Chicago needs to shed Boozer's contract. I think Atlanta should offer up to take Boozer if Chicago gives us McDermott. Chicago will have Mello and Dunleavy at the 3.
Atlanta will have Boozer for the last year of his deal and he add depth, which we know you can't have too many bigs. We also add that wing player we covet in McDermott who fits our scheme.
Next year, Boozer's deal expires, along with Milsap, and we're looking at 25 million in cap space.
