As I look at the construction of the team along with our surprising performance in the playoffs. I'm thinking that we might be a good fit for Carmelo Anthony. Here is my thinking. As currently constructed the team is filled with players who know their role and fit well with the scheme. What we lack is an alpha dog who can completely take over when needed and dominate a mismatch. Basically we are one superstar or super scorer away from making some real noise in the playoffs. If we had Carmelo we would have handily beaten the Pacers because that would be too much firepower on the floor at any given time. Now I know that CA is seen as one dimensional--only able to score and not being able to play defense however this system does not require great individual play on defense but rather great team defense. Look no further than Kyle Korver as an example of one who typically shoots well but is not considered a great defender. He fit right in with that pesky and smart defensive style. I think Melo can do the same plus his offense is so strong that he usually draws the best defender so he doesn't have to worry to much with that guy's offense. Now let's talk about the financials. I know Melo will cost a lot but as currently constructed we should be able to plug him in. Obviously he would draw a lot of fans to the arena each night and he would earn his pay for that and for being that guy you go to when you absolutely have to get a basket. This team is in very good position to plug in a superstar who wouldn't have to carry the load each night but would be surrounded by 2 All Stars, a budding All Star in Jeff Teague and young up and coming role players. Let me know your thoughts!
