2014 WNBA: Dream look to snap skid against Storm

Steven Bisig-US PRESSWIRE

The Atlanta Dream look to snap a two-game losing streak when they take on Sue Bird and the Seattle Storm Friday night at Philips Arena.

The Atlanta Dream emerge from nearly a week off Friday night to take on the Seattle Storm at Philips Arena and will be trying to snap a two-game losing streak. The Dream dropped back-to-back games last weekend falling in Chicago and then back at home in overtime to Indiana.

The off days came at a good time for Atlanta. Leading scorer Angel McCoughtry sat out the loss in Chicago due to a sore shoulder. She returned for Sunday's loss but was still feeling the effects somewhat. Head Coach Michael Cooper also wanted to use the time to shore up some areas particularly in the rebounding department. When asked what he wanted to see coming out of the off days Cooper said:

"A kick-ass mentality, boxing out on the boards and build some nastiness and we will have that by the time we see Seattle."

Cooper had good reason to be upset about his team's rebounding. They were beaten on the boards in the loss to the Fever and center Eriana Larkins out rebounded Atlanta's duo of Sancho Lyttle and Erika de Souza 22 to 17 by herself.

The Storm are off to a 1-4 start and saw a late lead slip away in the final minutes in a loss to New York on Tuesday. Atlanta has enjoyed some good fortune against Seattle of late having won five of the last six matchups.

Seattle's Sue Bird got off to a slow start this season but has scored in double figures in each of the last two games. She finished with a season high 21 points in Tuesday's loss to the LIberty. She is averaging 11.6 points and 3.8 assists on the season. Camille Little is the only other Storm player averaging in double figures so far this season.

The Storm have played a road heavy schedule to start the season and are still looking for a rhythm on both ends of the floor. One such player that could deserve more touches is Crystal Langhorne who came over from Washington during the offseason. Langhorne is averaging 9.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per game this season while shooting 58 percent from the floor.
