The Atlanta Dream suffered their first loss of the 2014 season Saturday night in an 87-73 setback to the Chicago Sky. They look to get back on track on Sunday when they host the winless Indiana Fever.
Both teams come into the game with injury concerns with key players. For Atlanta, Angel McCoughtry was a late scratch on Saturday due to a sore shoulder. The injury didn't sound serious according to head coach Michael Cooper and he left the door open for her return on Sunday.
"She's better," coach Michael Cooper said. "I think it was more of a precautionary measure for her because we play tomorrow. If that had been late in the season and we needed her, I'm sure she would have toughed it out."
The Fever have been without Tamika Catchings in each of their first three games due to a sore back. She is listed as day-to-day.
Atlanta needed double overtime and a late three-pointer from McCoughtry to secure a 90-88 win over the Fever last Saturday in Indiana. McCoughtry led Atlanta with 27 points and is averaging 24 per game during the season.
Atlanta's Erika de Souza and Shoni Schimmel are also off to great starts for the Dream. De Souza is averaging 19.3 points and 10.7 rebounds while Schimmel is shooting 43 percent from three-point range and leads the team in assists at 9.7 per game. However, Atlanta missed McCoughtry's scoring punch in Saturday's loss to the Sky and need her back as soon as possible.
Without Catchings, Fever rookie Natasha Howard has been the team's focal point on the offensive end of the floor. Howard is averaging 14.7 points on the season and finished with 21 in last Saturday's matchup with the Dream.
