I am not much of a college basketball fan so I am relatively late learning about this year's NBA draft class. KJ McDaniels has achieved near cult status among many of the Hawks fans and bloggers that I respect. But when I try to find a reason to join the bandwagon, I simply fail. Can someone help me find that KJ love?
His shot-bocking won't likely translate to the NBA. He will spend his time chasing after Bradley Beal and Victor Oladipo for the next 8-10 years, not providing rim protection like he did at Clemson. His guard skills appear to be sub-par (e.g., dribbling, passing and perimeter shooting). I suspect that he will likely be an above average perimeter defender from day 1 and I get the sense that his work ethic fits the Ferry/Coach Bud blueprint. But, is he a one-dimensional player that will take several years to become a half-court offensive option? Is he an elite athlete that may or may not evolve into a basketball player? Inquiring minds want to know.
