Hawks vs Bucks: Atlanta to rest Paul Millsap in Milwaukee

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Hawks are set to wrap up the regular season against the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday, but it won't be a typical roster for Atlanta, as they will reportedly rest All-Star power forward Paul Millsap for the second straight game.

After resting three starters for the full game (and the other two for the 4th quarter) during Monday's close-fought loss to the Charlotte Bobcats, the Atlanta Hawks are once again poised to give the team's best player a break as they square off with the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday.

The first thing to note with this move is that, of course, this game means absolutely nothing in the standings or with regard to playoff positioning. Atlanta will be facing the Indiana Pacers (beginning this weekend) in round one, and with that already locked up, the Hawks have every incentive to make sure that their main contributors are rested and ready.

With that, the decision to rest Millsap makes all the sense and the world, and frankly, it is a bit of a surprise that he is the only one sitting. Plans are certainly subject to change (as noted by Chris Vivlamore's reference above), but if Kyle Korver, DeMarre Carroll, Pero Antic and company all suit up, it is reasonable to expect a reduced workload regardless of the outcome on the scoreboard.

Stay tuned for more updates as they become available, but the Hawks will apparently be without (at least) their go-to guy.
