Hawks vs Raptors final score: Atlanta falters late in loss to Toronto

Another poor fourth quarter costs Atlanta in a 96-86 loss to the Toronto Raptors.

The Atlanta Hawks squandered another big lead away in the fourth quarter as they drop their second straight game 96-86 to the Toronto Raptors.

The game was eerily reminiscent of Friday's loss to New Orleans. Atlanta took an 11 point lead into the fourth quarter on Sunday and Dennis Schroöder quickly upped that to 14 with a three-point play to open the period. Toronto answered with a 13-0 run to get back within one point as Atlanta's offense completely disappeared. DeMar DeRozan gave the Raptors the lead at 85-84 with 2:32 remaining and Kyle Lowry sealed it with a steal and layup with under 40 seconds to go.

Atlanta put in a solid effort for three quarters but is struggling to finish games. They allowed 42 fourth quarter points in Friday's loss to New Orleans and 36 more on Sunday against the Raptors. The Hawks held Toronto to just 37 percent shooting through the first three quarters but the Raptors connected on 12-20 attempts in the fourth.

Paul Millsap and DeMarre Carroll led Atlanta with 17 points but combined to score just six after halftime. Jeff Teague finished with 16 points and five assists but was just 5-13 from the field.

Kyle Lowry scored 13 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter to lead Toronto's comeback effort. DeMar DeRozan added 21 while Jonas Valanciunas was huge inside with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Atlanta's lead over the Knicks shrinks to just 2.5 games with the loss. New York will host the Cleveland Cavaliers Sunday night.
