This isn't really a question about tanking even though I don't mind having a down year to accumulate cheap talent through the draft. I just don't want to get in a cycle of signing good players to compete, knowing that you are still a first round exit team.
My preference: A down year or two accumulating cheap talent to keep the cap space open and build a solid disciplined team.
So what I am asking is what do you think the hawks are doing?
To me it looks like the Hawks are actually following a Houston plan. They aren't signing too many bad contracts [I think they paid Jeremy Lin too much money and the last year of Asik's deal is a little nasty (but its the last year)]. They are just building solid teams, accumulating tradeable assets and trying to become attractive to free agents.
