Celtics fan here...I wanted to get the Atlanta opinion of this trade. As a Celtics fan I have been of the impression the the Celtics should trade Rondo ever since they started to see lockdown defense out of Avery Bradley, who is also a serviceable point guard. It would be much easier replace Rondo by having him move to the point and Lee into the starting lineup and than it will be to find a replacement for KG. When his time is up.
As an Atlanta fan, I would imagine you are in a similar place with Josh Smith to the one the Celtics were in before KG and Ray Allen came. You have an All-Star on a mediocre or bad team that is no good to you unless you make changes for the future so you can resign him. Otherwise, it's time to move on and get something back for him by trading. If all the Rondo/Smith love fest talk is true, maybe Atlanta can keep him, and compete now.
All that said, here is the trade. Love to hear thoughts on how close this is or what else would need to be included...
Here is the trade...
Boston Trades: Rajon Rondo, Brandon Bass
Boston Receives: Al Horford, Jameer Nelson
Accomplishes: Compete this year and long term.
Staring linup of the future: Bradley, Lee, Green, Sullinger, Horford
Atlanta Trades: Al Horford, Jeff Teague
Receives: Rajon Rondo, JJ Redick
Accomplishes: Gives Atlanta a great shot at keeping Josh Smith and being competitive now (at least starting next year). Zaza Pachulia can fill in more minutes for Horford. Have two all stars in their prime and a knock down 3-point shooter to spread the floor.
Orlando Trades: Jameer Nelson, JJ Redick
Receives: Jeff Teague, Brandon Bass
Accomplishes: Ridding themselves of two older players with no plan of resigning, shedding salary, and getting a great young talent. (Would likely need draft picks from either ATL, BOS, or both to agree)
