Jannero Pargo's 2nd 10-day contract expires

Josh D. Weiss-US PRESSWIRE

Jannero Pargo's second 10-day contract with the Atlanta Hawks has expired and there is no word on where the team might go from here. To keep Pargo the Hawks will have to sign him for the remainder of the season.

Jannero Pargo's final 10-day contract with the Atlanta Hawks expired on Tuesday and there is no indication from the team on whether or not he will be brought back. League rules limit a team from signing a player to more than two 10-day contracts. To keep Pargo the Hawks must sign him for the remainder of the season.

Pargo burst onto the scene in his 2013 debut with the club scoring 16 points in a win over Minnesota on MLK Day. Since then Pargo is 7-27 from the field and has not played since February 5 in Indiana.

Pargo was originally signed to add depth at the point guard position after Lou Williams suffered a torn knee ligament that will cost him the remainder of the season. Jeff Teague has started every game for the Hawks this season but Devin Harris has battled a variety of injuries so there is a need for another guard that is capable of playing the point on the roster. Pargo was a logical choice given that he spent all of the 2011-12 season with the Hawks and in Larry Drew's system.

The Hawks could make a decision as soon as Wednesday or ultimately could put it off until after the All-Star Break. If Atlanta decides Pargo isn't the answer then perhaps they cast an eye towards the D-League where another former Hawks player Donald Sloan has been playing really well of late.
