Lou Williams injury: Hawks hopeful that Williams will be ready for training camp

USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Hawks are hopeful that injured guard Lou Williams will be ready by the time training camp rolls around next season.

According to an AP report, the Atlanta Hawks are optimistic that injured guard Lou Williams will be back by training camp next season. Williams had surgery last week to repair a torn ACL in his right knee with famed orthopedist Dr. James Andrews performing the surgery.

Williams' surgery was performed on Thursday in Gulf Breeze, Fla., by Dr. James Andrews, leaving about eight months before the start of next season's training camp. The Hawks say they are basing their optimism on the success of other athletes who have had surgery to repair torn anterior cruciate ligaments, including Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson.

Atlanta's hopes are a tad bit on the optimistic side as if you consider recent injuries to Ricky Rubio and Derrick Rose as a guide. Rubio returned to action in about nine months after suffering the injury. Rose still hasn't returned to the court but his 2013 debut is getting closer and with Chicago near the top of the Eastern standings, they haven't experienced a need to where they needed to rush him back.

Williams was in his first season with the Hawks after spending the first seven years of his career in Philadelphia. He signed a three-year deal with the club during this past offseason and was the team's third leading scorer at the time of the injury.
