Mavericks vs. Hawks Final Score: Atlanta overcomes deficit to win 88-87

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

Late fourth quarter antics push the Hawks to get the win.

The Hawks rallied late Friday night to come back from a 17-point second half deficit to snap a three-game losing streak. The Hawks had been trailing by four with three minutes left when Paul Millsap drained a 24 foot-three, leaving Al Horford to nail a long two with 4.2 left on the clock to seal the win in front of a raucous crowd at Philips Arena.

Atlanta and Dallas traded leads in the first quarter with the Hawks up by as much as five, before Dallas pulled away with 3:14 left to give the Mavericks a 23-28 lead going into the second.

Dallas padded the score to lead 39-53 at the end of two. Jose Calderon lead the team at halftime with 16 points on 9-of-14 shooting.

The Hawks struggled out of halftime to get behind by as much as 17 with 4:05 left in the third. Atlanta slowly started chipping away at Dallas' lead to only trail by 11 going into the fourth.

Atlanta stepped up their defensive efforts in the last quarter. They cut the deficit down to single digits with 8:38 left and never looked back. Millsap's three-point dagger got the Hawks within one and, after Jeff Teague and Dirk Nowitzki misses, Horford confidently made the 19-point jumper to get the win for Atlanta.

Teague lead the team with a somehow quiet 25 points, while Horford grabbed 12 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season.

Kyle Korver was inactive so his three point streak stays at 88, one shy of tying the all-time record. The Hawks travel to Washington to take on the Wizards tomorrow night at 7 p.m. ET.
