The shorthanded Atlanta Hawks aren't going to receive much sympathy from the Minnesota Timberwolves. Monday's MLK Day matchup is between two of the most beat up teams currently in the NBA. In fact, Atlanta's injury report pales in comparison to what the Timberwolves are dealing with.
Chase Budinger, Kevin Love, Malcolm Lee and Brandon Roy are out and didn't play in the first meeting between the two clubs back on January 8 and won't play on Monday. Neither will Alexey Shved or Nikola Pekovic who had 25 points and 18 rebounds in the first meeting against the Hawks. Dante Cunningham is also questionable with an illness.
Atlanta's injury situation has hit its backcourt hard and may leave the Hawks with one healthy point guard against the Timberwolves. Lou Williams tore his ACL last Friday and is out for the rest of the season. Devin Harris sprained his ankle one night later and is questionable for Monday's game leaving Jeff Teague as the Hawks' only healthy option. Anthony Morrow has missed the last 13 games with hip and back injuries and is listed as questionable for Monday's game. The Hawks could get back DeShawn Stevenson on Monday after he received a cortisone shot in his troublesome knee last Wednesday.
Minnesota won the first meeting 108-103 behind a strong game from Pekovic. The Hawks have lost eight of 10 and desperately need to get back on track before the schedule toughens again later this week.
