Devin Harris injury: Hawks down to one point guard

Kevin C. Cox

Injuries to Lou Williams and Devin Harris have left the Hawks with one healthy point guard in Jeff Teague on their roster.

Losing Devin Harris to injury certainly wasn't what the Hawks had in mind one day after losing Lou Williams for the season to a knee injury. Harris rolled his ankle during the second half of Saturday's loss to the San Antonio Spurs leaving Atlanta with only one healthy point guard on its roster in Jeff Teague. Harris had X-Rays on the ankle and left the arena with what was described as a severe limp.

Following the game, Larry Drew indicated that this latest injury may force the team to add another player to the roster. The Hawks have 14 players on their active roster and have room to add one. Additionally the 10-day contract signing period has begun so Atlanta can afford to bring in someone for depth.

"Being down to one point guard we are certainly going to have to talk about getting somebody in here because we are really depleted right now," said Hawks coach Larry Drew who added he would like to have another player within the next two days.

The timing is bad for Harris who was playing as well as he had the entire season since returning from a foot injury that cost him 11 games earlier this season. Harris had 13 points at the time of the injury.

Until the Hawks add a player, Teague is the only point guard on the roster. Look for his minutes to increase with presumedly John Jenkins now moving into the back up role. The team is expected to get back DeShawn Stevenson on Monday but there is no word on when Anthony Morrow might be able to return to action.
